Hi! I'm Lauren McGurrin. I'm a private chef and food stylist in Brooklyn, and I've spent my entire career in the culinary field in New York. My work started in restaurant kitchens in the city, including three high-profile openings and a Michelin-starred establishment. I left restaurants because the lifestyle took a toll on my mental and physical health over time.
As the years passed and my career progressed into private events and food styling, I realized that drinking alcohol was still contributing to me feeling anxious. I would feel better after taking extended breaks from drinking, and began experimenting with herbs and spices in my kitchen.
I wanted to create a line of amaros that reminded me of going out to celebrate after an evening of hard work in my first restaurant jobs. I liked things with interesting herbal flavors that made me go back for a second sip.
Mad Flora is both a beverage and a call to arms for messy, wild, scorned women. I found that as I drank less, I became more comfortable with the odder, madder parts of myself. I wanted the brand to celebrate those kind of women and use them as inspiration.
I hope you enjoy the drink with friends, and that it inspires you to be more yourself as well.
Cheers,
Lauren
